Maryland Early American Seminar

American Studies at Maryland offers abundant opportunities for faculty and student collaborative research.

All research involving human subjects must be approved by the Institutional Review Board.

The University of Maryland houses over 120 research centers and institutes.

In its third decade of existence, the Maryland Early American Seminar provides scholars with an opportunity to share their research on any dimension of pre-Columbian, colonial, early national, and Atlantic world history and culture. The seminar meets 6-8 times each academic year to discuss papers distributed ahead of time, and the papers, whether of graduate students, faculty, or independent scholars, are usually works in progress. The discussions are lively, and questions and suggestions about the work are welcome and appreciated. Members come from throughout the mid-Atlantic region, and the researchers who make their papers available about a month in advance come from throughout the nation and abroad. We are currently soliciting papers for the 2002-03 academic year. Anyone who is interested in presenting a paper or joining the seminar as a discussant should contact Dr. Nancy Struna, Department of American Studies or Dr. Alison Olson (301-405-4297) and Dr. Whitman Ridgway in the Department of History.
